A security guard at a southwest Atlanta apartment complex shot a man after responding to a domestic dispute early on Wednesday morning.
Authorities say the incident happened in a parking lot at the Pavilion Place Apartments on Cleveland Avenue. They say a man and a woman were in the middle of a domestic fight of some kind, and an armed security guard who was working on the grounds responded to the situation.
According to Atlanta police, the man who was fighting with his girlfriend or wife had a gun. They say the man pointed a gun at the security guard, and that the guard told him to drop it. The suspect did not drop the weapon. The security guard, apparently fearing for his life, shot the man in the leg. The man then fled the scene.
"It was at that point the suspect turned around and started fleeing from the scene. Police were able to respond and set up a good perimeter, called in a tracking dogs who were ultimately able to find the suspect laying in the high brush over at this location," said Captain Tim Peek of the Atlanta Police Department.
The neighborhood was blocked off by police while they searched for the suspect. The man was taken to Grady Hospital in stable condition.
A security guard at the complex told FOX 5 the apartment is in a dangerous part of town, and they don't take chances with their lives and the lives of the residents.
The shooting is under investigation, and charges are pending.
