GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -

The Gwinnett Braves hosted Boston Strong Night against the Pawtucket Red Sox on Tuesday.

Tickets sold online benefited victims of the Boston terrorist attack.

While Atlanta and Boston are separated by a thousand miles, there's an old connection.  Boston is not only the birth place of our freedom, but also of our Atlanta Braves.

To help make it an even bigger night, athletes with Boston ties arrived to throw out the first pitch. Notables included Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, who went to Boston College,  Jason Varitek, the former captain of the Boston Red Sox and Georgia Tech alum,  former Patriots safety Rodney Harrison and D. Brown, a former Boston Celtics player.

Varitek said he was glad to be a part of the even.

"When it happens here, you know, so far away from Boston, that, you know, it's a good feeling because this is, you know, my other home, and I have, you know, two homes in my heart…one there and one here, and, you know, it's nice that somebody had the wherewithal to come up with, hey, we need to do something to give back,'" said Varitek.

Ryan's pitch was just a little bit outside, but he connected. So did all the fans who came out to support Boston.
