Unofficial results are in for the Republican primary in Southaven. Municipalities across Mississippi held primary elections on Tuesday.
The biggest race of the day was for mayor. Insurance salesman Darren Musselwhite received 37.29 percent of the votes cast (902). Police School Resource Officer and Boy Scout troop leader Jerald Wheeler finished second with 676 votes (27.95 percent), and DeSoto County Board of Supervisors member and ambulance driver Mark Gardner received 556 votes (22.98 percent).

A total of 2,419 votes were cast in the Southaven mayoral primary.
A primary run-off will be May 21 involving Musselwhite and Wheeler. The winner of the GOP mayoral run-off will go on to face incumbent Mayor Greg Davis, who is running as an independent, and Coria Williams, the Democratic Party's nomination, on June 4.

In the GOP races for Southaven Aldermen Kristian Kelly secured 48.91 percent of the vote in Ward 1 (425 votes); in Ward 2 Shirley Beshears took all 243 votes cast; in Ward 3 voters selected George Payne (587 votes, 69.80 percent); and J.M. Gallagher secured the most votes in the Ward 4 race (292, 43.52 percent).
