If you live in the downtown or midtown areas you now have a fresh veggie and fruit source every Tuesday now that the Church Health Center Farmers Market has reopened for another season.
This is the third year for the Tuesday offering where you can get your hands on a fresh supply of healthy fruits and veggies.
"We just wanted to give an opportunity for people who need a lunch time market," said Suzanne Ray. "If they are busy on Saturday they can come on their lunch break on a Tuesday."
A few years ago finding fresh produce from area farms was a real challenge, but now you can find just about everything that grows on God's green Earth at farmers markets all over the city just about every day of the week, which makes eating healthier much easier.
"It makes sense we're kind of getting back to where we came from," Ray said. "We need to be eating fruits and veggies that come straight from the source."
The difference between the Church Health Center Farmers Market and any other farmers market is they actually teach you how to cook with this stuff.
Cooking may not be the correct term for how to prepare food while keeping as much nutritional value as possible. Instead of a skillet and some grease, grab a blender, some bananas, and some green stuff. Blend it all together and you get some green stuff that you can drink. It's really good for you.
"The trick is you have to ratio your good food with the food you don't like too much," said Kairen Febles of Health Delicious Smoothy Truck. "You hide them. Yes, you just hide them. I have two kids so I have to be able to give them foods that are good for them so I have to trick them.
"If it does not taste good you are not going to eat it again."
