Officials working to ID 4 dead in Nye Co. crash

Posted: Updated:

AMARGOSA VALLEY, Nev. (AP) - Nevada authorities are still working to positively identify four people killed in a fiery wrong-way crash in Nye County over the weekend.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Jeremie Elliott says there was little left of the bodies and the vehicles after what he called a violent collision around 11 p.m. Sunday.

Elliott says the person driving a Buick the wrong way on U.S. 95 was killed, along with an adult and two minors in a Toyota van.

Elliott says the van is from the Kingman, Ariz., area, and officials are "pretty positive" they know who was inside.

The crash happened about 10 miles from the community of Amargosa Valley, and about five miles from the nearest fire station. Elliott says the remoteness of the crash may have affected the response time.
