BREAKING UPDATE: Mississippi Supreme Court blocks execution of inmate convicted of killing college students.
An admitted federal mistake doesn't seem to be enough to stop one man from being executed. Reuters is reporting that the execution of Mississippi inmate Willie Jerome Manning will go on as scheduled this evening.
Lawyers for the convicted killer tried to stall tonight's execution after a federal investigator admitted issues with a DNA sample used as evidence during the case.
The court decided that the admitted mistake was not large enough to overturn manning's death sentence.
If nothing changes between now and 6 p.m. tonight this will be the first execution in Mississippi this year.
