Neglected animals seized from Scottsdale home

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -

Several pets were taken from a home near Loop 101 and Chaparral because the homeowner was neglecting the animals, police said.

The Arizona Humane Society learned that the homeowner was in a hospital having a procedure done and wasn't caring for the animals.

When authorities arrived at the house, they found over a dozen turtles the backyard, of which five were dead.

A dog and dozens of birds were also taken from the home.

The owner, 70-year-old Howard Mitchell, is facing multiple counts of cruelty to animals.
