Kids Kan winner produces 27,968 meals for people in need.
Today from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the Mid-South Food Bank will host an Awards Party and Luncheon to honor Bellevue Middle School for an amazing accomplishment. For the 21st year in a row, the school has won Mid-South Food Bank's Kids Kan Food Drive. The school earned the top honor through the donation of 33,562 pounds of food and $5,200 in money equaling 27,968 meals to feed citizens in need. Bellevue competed among numerous schools across the Mid-South region and worked hard with its supporters to raise canned goods and monetary donations.
Middle School has accomplished what no other school in the Mid-South has ever
done – win the Kids Kan competition for 21 years in a row.
Bellevue competes with schools in West Tennessee, East Arkansas and North
Mississippi annually. The school's principal, teachers, staff, students,
parents and adopters are extremely committed to the food drive, partly because
of the late Margie Dowell, a Bellevue teacher who
actively coordinated its Kids Kan Food Drive for 15 years, leading the school
to win continuously. Each year, the task of helping people in need
bonds the school with all if its community stakeholders. Bellevue Middle
School is located in Midtown Memphis.
