Police looking for wildfire starters in Flagstaff

Posted: Updated:

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities in Flagstaff are looking for four teenagers who they believe started a string of small fires Friday.

Two of the fires are within city limits, and the other is on U.S. Forest Service land. They range in size from a quarter-acre to 1.5 acres.

Police Sgt. James Jackson says witnesses reported seeing three females and a male all wearing black shirts and jeans around the origin of the fires. They are described as American Indian, between 15 and 17 years old. Jackson says 1 of the girls was wearing a black and gray baseball hat.

The fires had been burning on the south side of town near Northern Arizona University and near some homes.

Jackson says police know the identity of the teenagers and believe they're traveling on foot.
