Jockey Rosemary Homeister races at Arlington Park for Kentucky Derby weekend

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (FOX 32 News) -

The Kentucky Derby is on Saturday. But the fun begins at Arlington Park on Friday for opening weekend. There's lots to do and more to see!

Good Day Chicago caught up with Rosemary Homeister Jr. on Friday, one of the best jockeys ever to sit in the saddle. But her greatest love may be what awaits her at the end of the day.

For Rosemary, racing is a routine that never grows old. Every time she gets ready to ride, she gets that special feeling - somewhere between excited and sick to her stomach.

Rosemary is a competitor to say the least. She is a second generation jockey, following in her parents' footsteps since the early 90's. Rosemary has won more than 2,600 races!

Rising to the highest ranks of one's profession is never easy, but this lady has done it with grace and style – and she's still learning.

The new mom – congratulations Rosemary! - will be riding high in the saddle again on Friday, when she competes in four separate races at Arlington.

Three-time Kentucky Derby winner Kent Jason Desormeaux is also racing at Arlington Park for opening weekend. This jockey also has his favorite to win already picked out!
