SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -

Antoinette Simpson's mother, 53-year-old Ella Michelle Andrews, suffering from dementia and severe depression, has been missing for more than a week.

"My mother had walked away from my home twice before, which is why I thought giving her to an adult foster home, she would be better watched," Simpson said.

Now she is beside herself with worry.  Her mother without her medication is out there all alone having wandered away from a group home in Southfield near Inkster Road north of I-696.

Andrews had been staying at what Simpson thought was an adult foster care home recommended to her by her mother's hospital.  We tried to get answers at the group home, but they wouldn't make anyone available to tell us how Andrews was able to wander off sometime overnight last Tuesday.

"I just saw her... the Monday before she left, and then I got the phone call Wednesday at work that she was gone," Simpson said.

Andrews has been seen in the Eleven Mile and Inkster area and at Twelve and Telegraph.  She may answer to either Ella  or her middle name -- Michelle.

Anyone with information on Andrews' whereabouts is asked to contact Southfield Police.

"I'm not sure what state of mind she's in, if she's eating, how she's grooming herself, taking care of herself, just the basic human needs," Simpson said.  "It's a living nightmare."
