The Talker: Data reveals trends in Facebook posts based on age

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Social media has turned every aspect of our personal lives into searchable data that can be bought, sold, and analyzed.

Now, the focus is on the analysis.

The firm Wolfram Alpha analyzed how age affects what people post on Facebook; the things we're interested in and get more or less interested in as we grow older.

Some of the results are fascinating, while some of them predictable.

Researchers found people on Facebook who are in their late-teens go heaviest on inspirational quotations, but the trend dips in their twenties. 30-year-olds post the fewest life philosophy quotes. Then, after 30, the quotes start climbing again.

Teens also talk the most about relationships.

Posts about health rise in our late twenties, keep rising until around 40 and then level off. Also in our late twenties, we start posting about food a lot more than before.

Here's a random one: people start to get more cat-obsessed in their late twenties. Posts about animals in general peak at about 35.

30-year-olds talk the most online about television shows. After 30, the trend goes down.

Talk about the medium being the message. Teens use social media to talk about social media more than any other age group.
