He was the funniest guy in the room, something that made it all the harder for friends and fans to accept that beneath that reservoir of frenetic energy and seemingly endless good humor resided demons so dark they could push Robin Williams to suicide.

ATLANTA -

Television shows like The Walking Dead and films like Anchorman 2 and The Hunger Games are being filmed in Georgia, and tens of millions of dollars are being invested with at least five major studio developments in the works.

From a strictly financial standpoint, there's no business like show business in Georgia.

"In 2007, it was at $244 million and by 2012, just five years later, we were at $3.1 billion," said
Lee Thomas, director of Georgia film, Music  and Digital Entertainment.

Thomas says it's not just the big production houses profiting, but everyday Georgians are hopping on the movie-making bandwagon.

"Some of them get in the traditional way as a cameraman, grip or electrician. But people are creating all kinds of new businesses to serve the industry. Florists, caterers, coffee providers and people that do specialty contact lenses.

Scott Jeffrey, owner of Get Up Cup, is one of those getting in the ground floor. He's makes specialty coffee for dozens of movie and TV crews.

"Just knowing someone in a certain catering company, or knowing a craft services person, doesn't help as much as if you know the person who is running that dag gum production itself," said Jeffrey.

Thomas says if you want to get in the door, you've got to get in the book -- the annual Georgia Film Sourcebook. It's given to all the productions filming in the state to guide them to local businesses.

"Somebody that just goes in and cardboard houses so they can bring the dollies in, there are two or three of those in the book this year, and that was something we never had before," said Thomas.

She says you'd be surprised as to the skills needed for the growing industry. Those skills make it a wide open field to any Georgian wanting to get into show business.

"They needed somebody to teach Amy Adams to play pool. That's not in the book," said Thomas.
