Shelby Co. Firefighters battle overnight blaze

Posted: Updated:

Not one, but two homes burned in an overnight fire in the 4700 block of Waterfront Oaks.

Shelby County Fire department responded to at least nine calls regarding a home that was on fire.  When they arrived on the scene they reported one home was "100% involved" and a neighboring home was also on fire.

During the firefighters attack on the second home, two firefighters were thought to have been hurt from the back draft when entering thru the front door.  It was latter realized they were not injured due to their training and protective gear.  They were able to return to fighting the fires.

None of the residents were hurt but unfortunately the family pet dog died on the scene, likely due to smoke inhalation.

Shelby County, Memphis and Millington Fire Departments all assisted in containing the fires.

There are no details at this time about how the fires were started.

This is ongoing investigation.
