NEW CASTLE, Del. -

Airmen with the Delaware Air Guard departed for Southwest Asia Sunday morning for a two month mission in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Officials say around two dozen airmen departed Sunday and the rest will depart Monday.

The group, which is from the 166th Airlift Wing, is headed to Southwest Asia combat zones for a mission that began in late February.

Delaware Air Guard officials say the airmen will operate under the U.S. Air Force Central Command.

"Our Airmen will seamlessly step in and continue the great work our aircrews and maintainers have been doing so well the last couple months to support our warfighters," 166th Airlift Wing Commander Col. Mike Feeley said in a statement.

The Delaware Air National Guard has 1,100 members and is celebrating 67 years of Citizen-Airmen service to the state and to the nation.
