Millions of students are getting free meals at school, but there is a lawmaker out there that says nothing is free – not even a school lunch.
Ray Canterbury, a state delegate in West Virginia, says kids should work for their meals.
He wants them to sweep floors, take out the trash, mow the lawn – basically become janitors – in order to earn a free meal at school.
He says giving students free lunches destroys their work ethic and shows them there is an easy way out of everything.
He says, "If they miss a lunch or they miss a meal they might not, in that class that afternoon, learn to add, they may not learn to diagram a sentence, but they'll learn a more important lesson."
Is it a good idea to make kids earn their lunch? Let us know what you think on the FOX 29 Facebook page.
