PHOENIX (AP) - Conservative Republicans in the Arizona Legislature who oppose Gov. Jan Brewer's plan to expand the state's Medicaid coverage to more people are laying out their alternatives.

A group of lawmakers held a rally Thursday at the Capitol along with backers who want them to oppose the expansion allowed under provisions of the federal health care overhaul.

Senate President Andy Biggs says the state should refuse the federal money and instead use the state's rainy day fund to pay for childless adults now covered.

Those 63,000 adults will lose coverage in January when a federal waiver expires unless the state pays for all their care.

Brewer spokesman Matthew Benson says that option would drain the fund in less than two years.
