An ethics commission will investigate if Shelby County Commissioner Sidney Chism has a conflict of interest when it comes to Head Start money and a daycare center he owns with his wife.
Commissioner Terry Roland has asked for the probe. He claims since 2006, Commissioner Chism has voted on resolutions to fund Head Start while his daycare has an indirect connection to it.
County officials say Chism's daycare center is not under contract by Head Start and receives no county money. Commissioner Chism told FOX13 News there is a 2006 county attorney opinion to support that.
The Horn Lake Road Daycare Center is a community partner through Memphis City Schools. Children attending Horn Lake Road can qualify for free meals and dental check ups.
Commissioner Roland has asked the FBI and Shelby county District Attorney's Office to investigate the matter.
