Nationals pitchers give advice to Sue Palka on throwing out first pitch

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON -

FOX 5's Sue Palka will be throwing out the first pitch at the Nationals series finale against the St. Louis Cardinals Wednesday afternoon.

Sue says she has been practicing a lot, but is very nervous about it too. After all, she will be stepping onto the mound in front of thousands of Nationals fans and numerous cameras.

However, some Nationals pitchers have given some advice for Sue.

Craig Stammen says treat it like a regular weathercast.

"Since she's a weather girl, just picture the green screen back there and throw it wherever you think the map of D.C. is," he says.

Zach Duke thinks pressure can be a good thing: "It could be awfully be embarrassing if you don't throw a good pitch, so the main thing is you just have to put a lot of pressure on yourself to get the job done."

"Miss high, I guess. If you're going to miss, you're going to miss high," says Drew Storen. "Anything in the dirt, you don't want to scuff the baseball, you can't scuff the baseball. You got to hit the target. From Happy Gilmore, 'Lot of lights, lot of cameras, lot of pressure.'"
