Spring City, TN -

A security breach at an East Tennessee nuclear plant leaves folks on edge.

A Tennessee Valley Authority spokesperson has confirmed that a security officer patrolling the area around the Watts Nuclear Plant in Spring City was involved in a shootout with a suspect around 2 a.m. this morning.  The man, who was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, shot at the officer and struck the officer's vehicle.  The officer was not injured.

It happened more than a quarter of a mile from the plant's protected area which houses its reactor but this is still a scary situation.

A TVA spokesperson, says the suspect traveled up to the plant on a boat and walked onto the property.  When the officer questioned him the suspect fired several shots.  The officer shot back and when he called for backup the suspect fled in his boat.

The incident is under investigation by the FBI.
