DETROIT (WJBK) -
The Detroit City Council has approved a legal contract after dozens of protesters interrupted its meeting.
The protesters held hands, sang and chanted before at least two people were taken away in handcuffs.
After calling for a brief recess, council members returned and voted 5-2 for the $3 million contract with Cleveland-based Jones Day law firm. That is the same firm which previously employed emergency manager Kevyn Orr.
Watch: Video from council shows members discussing a possible conflict of interest with Jones Day and protesters begin singing in chambers.
The council's decision on the matter is advisory, since the state's emergency manager law gives Orr authority over city contracts. Jones Day will now be involved in talks with city creditors as Orr works to restructure the city and remove its $327 million budget deficit.
Orr was appointed by Gov. Rick Snyder last month.
