Could A Bigger Waistline Mean A Smaller Paycheck?

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Could a bigger waistline lead to a smaller paycheck?

We first told you about this Thursday. CVS, for example, requires its employees who use its health plan to submit their weight, body fat, glucose levels and other information, or they'll face paying a monthly fine.

The fine is $50 each month. That's $600 a year.

The employees have until May 1 of next year to make a doctor's appointment and record their vitals.

Critics say this is discrimination.

Joining "Good Day" on Friday morning to discuss the policy were Dr. Anthony Wehbe -- who doesn't think it's outrageous because it is as bad as smoking, and some insurance policies won't cover smokers -- and attorney Ken Rothweiler, who doesn't like the policy.

Insurance policies have rules governing what's covered and what's not. Generally, they make sense. The rules are designed to prevent unreasonable costs from being passed along to the insurer, and by extension to other insurance customers. But listen to Sheree Kober's story.
