Defense secretary John Kerry is warning that North Korea is skating very close to a dangerous line. Fox News has reported that North Korea has positioned two mobile missile launchers on the country's east coast.
Yet despite the threat on South Korea, people there seem to be staying calm.
This ASU student is in South Korea studying biomedical engineering. He's been there now for about 2 months, and says he actually feels safer there than he does here in Arizona.
Via Skype, we talked to Clayton Hemann, a junior at ASU studying in Seoul. Hemann is at Yon Sei University -- the Harvard of South Korea.
He told us about the atmosphere there.
"Calm, very calm, no one's panicking, no one's worried. My roommate is native Korean, he's talking with me about how they get these threats every day, every year. It's pretty much the way life is."
Despite warnings from North Korea Tuesday for all foreigners to evacuate South Korea, Hemann says everything has been business as usual.
"We've been through this before. Go to class, do your stuff, no worries."
He says he hasn't been notified of any emergency plan.
The South Korean government told lawmakers in his country that the prospect of a missile launch is considerably high.
He talks with his family a few times a week. They live here in Laveen. He admits his mom is worried.
"Last night my mother wanted me to come home right away. I told her I wasn't going to do that. She'll probably today tell me she's over it, that's she's fine. My dad, he's more telling me to enjoy the trip, make sure I don't do anything, to make sure I don't get hurt."
Overall though, Hemann says he feels very safe living in Seoul. He points to the low crime rate.
"Even with the North Korean threat I actually feel a lot safer here than I do back home."
He says his faith guides him.
"I just have to trust in Him and follow Him. I believe I should stay here and just see what happens."
Hemann has no plans to come home at all soon. He says he'll finish out the year there and expects to be home in January.
