Memphis Police Officer Brian Phillips turned himself into economic crimes investigators after he allegedly filed a false identity theft report in March.
According to a police report, Officer Phillips filed an identity theft report on March 23 that alleged unknown suspects opened five separate accounts that used his identity. The accounts were for $20,000.
Economic crime detectives said their investigation revealed that the five accounts were made by Officer Phillips. An arrest warrant was issued April 9 and he turned himself into police.
Officer Phillips posted a $5,000 bond to get out of jail and has been relieved of duty with pay pending an investigation. Phillips has been with Memphis Police for six years and his assigned to the Mount Moriah precinct.
