Air Force pilot from Glendale killed in Afghanistan

WASHINGTON, DC - An Air Force pilot who graduated from high school in Glendale has been killed in Afghanistan.

Captain James Steel, 29, graduated from Cactus High School and then earned his degree at the Air Force Academy.

He was piloting an F-16 near Bagram Air Field when it crashed April 3.

Steel was stationed at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina, but did his pilot training at Luke Air Force Base.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
