A 71-year-old man, accused of preying on kids for more than three decades, is finally behind bars.

Alfred Chavez has been accused of abusing five victims. But this investigation isn't over.

Police say two victims came forward in December, and when detectives started looking into it, they say the investigation snowballed. Each victim led them to another.

Chavez was arrested on Monday at his home near 31st Avenue and Peoria.

"There were quite a few kids around there," says neighbor Lisa Ownings.

Lots of kids were always at the house, but neighbors say they had no idea.

"Very surprised, very surprised but these days you just don't know."

During the investigation, Phoenix Police say they found other victims who claim Chavez molested them in the 70's and 80's. Because of the statute of limitations, so much time has passed, he can't be charged.

Police say some of the victims are neighborhood kids who would come over to swim in his pool. Chavez is well known in this close-knit neighborhood.

"We had yard sales, he came, and I've gone to his yard sales, and he seemed to be a very nice gentleman," says Ownings.

Chavez is facing possible charges of sex abuse, kidnapping, and molestation. The alleged victims are all young girls. For now, the investigation continues.

"My granddaughter walks from school to my home here so I'll be a little more attentive to that now," says neighbor John Juarez.

Chavez denies the allegations, saying all of the victims are lying. Anyone with information on this case should call Phoenix Police.
