Mother questions school security after fight captured on camera

Posted: Updated:

A mother wants to know why security didn't intervene after she says multiple girls attacked her daughter at a local high school.

The incident occurred at Langston Hughes High School in south Fulton County on Monday and was captured on a cell phone and uploaded to YouTube. The video shows a quickly-escalating incident in a crowd of students.

Parent Mackenzie Parker says the video is wrenching for her to watch.

"I hurt, I cry, my daughter was exposed. She was basically beat by four girls," said Parker.

She says a group of students attacked her daughter, Dajah James, and two friends with a school security officer nearby.

"He was aware of the situation. Why wait for backup? Call backup early. You see what's happening," said Parker.

"He could have stopped it before it started. He was right there," James said.

The mother says her daughter and other students have been suspended following the school hallway incident.

"They have been put out of school for 10 days. They have to go to court when they clearly were the victims in the situation," said Parker.

Joann Pinson is the great aunt of student Tia Strong, who also says she was attacked.

"They couldn't the other way. They were surrounded. But the school said that it was a group fight participation," said Joann Pinson.

A Fulton County Schools spokeswoman says the school resource officer acted correctly by radioing administrators for help to break up the fight. Beyond that, the system would only say they will discipline the students involved.

The student's mother says Monday's incident apparently stemmed from an argument at a skating rink during the school system's spring break last week.
