Superstorm Sandy

Storm volunteers' vans stolen

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A college group had rented three vans and parked them on the street right behind the hotel where they were staying.  Police estimate that at about 6 a.m. Thursday at least two people busted the back locks of two of the vans and stole them.

So students from St. Joseph's College campuses in Patchogue and Brooklyn had no transportation to do what they've been doing all week:  helping families devastated by Superstorm Sandy.

More than 30 college students and advisors voluntarily spent their spring break this week helping families rebuild in Breezy Point and Fire Island.

They were staying at the La Quinta Inn in Ozone Park, Queens, when the vans were stolen. Thieves not only hurt the students but the families that the students had planned on helping.

When police learned that the charitable students had been ripped off, they jumped into action and used GPS to track down the vans in East New York, Brooklyn.  Police dusted for prints, which will hopefully help them find the thieves.

The students' good will may have been cut short this week but they say they will be back.

Burger chain Five Guys is testing the adage that everything tastes better with bacon. It is rolling out a customizable milkshake program and along with bananas, peanut butter, Oreo cookies, salted caramel, you can chose bacon.  Yes that's right: a bacon milkshake.
