PHOENIX (AP) - A Gilbert woman who faced dozens of felony charges for pretending to have cancer in order to collect donations has admitted to the allegations.

Superior Court records show Kelly Ann Wasko pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges of theft, attempted theft and fraudulent schemes. Sentencing is set for May 7 before Judge John Ditsworth.

Wasko's scam began in December 2011 when she told her adult daughter that she needed a bone marrow transplant and her insurance policy would not cover it.

Her daughter, who lived in Colorado, built a Facebook fundraising page. More than $12,000 were collected for Wasko.

The daughter became suspicious of her mother's claims and contacted authorities.

Wasko was arrested in December 2012. She initially pleaded not guilty.
