BRYANT, Ark. (AP) -

Authorities say a Bryant police officer fatally shot a man wanted on a murder warrant out of Illinois.

Arkansas State Police say Bryant officers were responding to a burglary call at a store late Tuesday when they encountered a man in a fenced-in area. State police say the man and a Bryant officer exchange gunfire.

Bryant police identified the suspect as 41-year-old Thomas O'Dell, who was pronounced dead at Saline Memorial Hospital. The officer was treated and released from a hospital for his injuries.

Bryant is about 20 miles southwest of Little Rock

Police say O'Dell was a suspect in the March 18 shooting death of Benjamin Newton at a pub in Mattoon, Ill. Authorities say he was also suspected in two vehicle thefts in Missouri.
