USPS agrees to halt shredding of Books from Birth books

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

It looks like Books from Birth will be able to turn the page on a tough issue with the United States Postal Service.

According to a post on the organization's Facebook page the post office is no longer shredding its books!

Earlier this year the post office made the decision to shred books returned to their offices because of budget cuts.  But it seems Senator Lamar Alexander was able to convince the Postmaster General to halt the process.  This is only a temporary solution for the next six (6) months but volunteers will once again be able to collect undeliverable books.

Books from Birth send nearly 35,000 novels out each month to children in every neighborhood in Shelby County.
