Gov. Christie 'Deeply Disturbed' By Video Of Rutgers Basketball Coach

Posted: Updated:
NEWARK, N.J. -

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Tuesday responded to video that surfaced of a Rutgers basketball coach using slurs and grabbing his players, calling it "deeply disturbing."

The video, which was obtained by ESPN's Outside the Lines, shows coach Mike Rice as he appears to berate players, yell slurs and throw basketballs at them.

"Gov. Christie saw the video today for the first time and he is obviously deeply disturbed by the conduct displayed and strongly condemns this behavior," a statement issued by Christie's press secretary Michael Drewniak read.

"It's not the type of leadership we should be showing our young people and clearly there are questions about this behavior that need to be answered by the leaders at Rutgers University," the statement continued.

The Associated Press reports a copy of the video was given to Scarlet Knights athletic director Tim Pernetti in late November by a former employee. The video resulted in the suspension of Rice for three games, a fine and anger management classes, according to the AP report.

    NICE EASTER WEEKEND

The first half of the holiday weekend has been great and Easter Sunday looks just as nice. Clouds thin out late tonight with temperatures falling back to the 40s.

Initially it'll be jacket weather early Sunday morning but plenty of sunshine will warm us into the 60s by afternoon.  High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Saturday.

It will be noticeably cooler and breezy at the shore with highs in the low 50s.  Quiet conditions continue into Monday.
