On March 26 the restaurant and bar was shut after an investigation revealed the club's associates and employees were selling drugs from inside the bar during business hours.

"Much of the illegal activity inside this business was committed by employees at this location," said DA General Weirich said in a news release. "This cannot be tolerated. The business' owner and its employees should be held to account."

MPD responded to at least 74 calls to that location between January 2012-March 2013. During that time period there were 28 offense reports that had originated from that business address, including robbery, aggravated assaults, drug use, domestic assault and DUI.

Restaurant owner John Edwards of MPJ Investments, LLC was ordered to court and he agreed to in order to avoid prosecution.

In the consent order, Edwards and Club Blu may re-open under the following terms and conditions:

           (1) Michael Schlach

           (2) Glen Green, Jr.

           (3) Chris Askew

           (4) Edward Lee Davis

           (5) Shania Vaughn

  • Pay a fine in the amount of $1,000 to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office to offset any portion of the cost of the investigation, (payment must be made within 30 days)
  • Employ only licensed and bonded professional security
  • Security required to manage patrons inside the restaurant and bar, and patrol the parking areas
  • Security to maintain orderly entry and exit of BLU patrons and manage traffic to and from the business and area parking
  • Continue to cooperate and communicate with Shelby County Sheriff Deputies on any potential issues with public nuisance activities occurring on the property.
