New form of physical therapy combats pain

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

Chronic pain is a common problem that presents a major challenge to doctors who, in many cases, can't identify the cause.  But, if conventional treatments aren't working, a new kind of therapy may be an effective treatment approach.

It's a new form psychical therapy called integrative physical therapy.  It looks a lot like conventional psychical therapy but Myofascial Release is a lot more. Some claim it is highly effective for decreasing pain, improving movement and restoring energy.

Integrated physical therapies John Petrides claims, "Your body is a series of lever systems and your Fascia is a connection between all that so when the tissue in a muscle stays tight for a long period the connecting tissue running through that muscle binds down so you can release that muscle. Put heat on it, ice on it. You can take anti-inflammatories. The muscle releases, but connectors within that muscle do not and keeps them shortened and tightened down and even the Fascia has been measured and it can put up to 2,000 pounds per square inch of pressure. Put (that) near a nerve, you are going to have pain."

Susan Jenkins has been practicing this method of psychical treatment for pain for more than 10 years and has seen many people who had run out of options find relief with this treatment.

You must be referred by your doctor for treatment, but once you start seeing results you can manage much of your future wellness yourself.

"I had been diagnosed with two bulging discs and one slightly ruptured and the surgeon was very conservative. I was in (my) early 30's and he sent me to a therapist, but nothing worked. Pain meds, muscle relaters etc. No relief really limited my lifestyle till I found Susan and integrative physical therapy. My last MRI was several years ago.  Bulging disc gone and ruptured disc was gone as well," says former patient Cyndi Underwood.
