ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -

Seven people were sent to the hospital in Atlantic City after police say a man got his hands on a fire extinguisher inside of a public safety building Tuesday morning.

According to police, Thomas McHugh was involved in a confrontation with police on the fourth floor of the building when he picked up the extinguisher. Police say the building had to be evacuated.

Five police officers were among the seven taken to the hospital.

Police say McHugh had just been released after spending the night in jail on disorderly conduct and shoplifting charges.
