2 Germantown students killed in separate accidents
GERMANTOWN, Tenn. (FOX13) -
Two 16-year-old Germantown High School students have been killed in separate accidents in less 48 hours.
Thursday evening at around 10 p.m., Himyar Hassan was accidentally shot and killed in his home in the 8200 block of Tulip Rose Drive in Southeast Memphis, near the Windyke Country Club.
Shelby County Sheriff's deputies say Hassan suffered a gunshot wound to his upper chest area. He was treated by first responders but was later pronounced deceased at the home.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Hassan was handling a loaded .45-caliber handgun when it discharged accidentally shooting himself.
Thursday evening's tragic death added to the grieving that Germantown High School students are already going through. A day earlier Chris Hess died from injuries he sustained when the SUV he was operating crashed into a tree on Germantown Road.
