The father of a woman accused of assaulting a teenager in a wooded area of Cape May County says he doesn't believe the charges.
Eighteen-year-old Brittany Hearon was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, police said.
Seven others who are minors, according to police, are accused of sexually assaulting and attacking the victim. Three of the teenage suspects were sent to a juvenile detention center while the others were released to their parents.
The attack happened in a wooded area of Lower Township known as "Rutherford Tract."
Hearon was released on her own recognizance.
Rain arrives for the second half of the work week. Another fall-like blast of cool weather to follow for the weekend.
Scattered showers are possible tonight as a cold front approaches the area. Otherwise, the best chance for rain will be Thursday afternoon and night where we'll see on and off showers and thunderstorms.
Clouds and showers linger though much of Friday. We may still see a passing shower Saturday. Unseasonably cool air returns this weekend where both days only see high temps in the mid 70s with many of us falling into the 50s at night.
