It was just a few weeks ago that Tangelia Jones told Fox 2 that she felt like she had no hope and that she had to leave the city to provide a good life for her family.  But thanks to the Wayne County Treasurer's Office she now has a new home in the City of Detroit that is better than the last.

"You want the City of Detroit to come back and then when people buy a house and try to bring it back you tear it down.  I think that's awful," says Jones.

That was Tangelia Jones just days after the home she had just bought was demolished by the State of Michigan. It was part of a program designed to create safer routes to schools.  But demolishing newly purchased homes wasn't part of the plan.

"They making it hard for us to be in the city when someone just jack your house like that," says Jones.

Tangelia and her family were without a home, until the Wayne County Treasurer's Office got involved.  They didn't order the demolition, but the county did sell the home during its annual tax auction.

"Treasurer Wojtowicz took a look at this and right away said what happened just wasn't right.  Whether we were involved or not something was wrong.  He wanted us to do an investigation to find out what happened and when he found out what happened he said we have to do what we can for this person.  A few of our employees scoured talked to other government agencies looking for a possible home for Ms. Jones " says David Szymanski of the Wayne County Treasurer's Office.

And this is Tangelia Jones' new home..on a well occupied block on Detroit's east side..not far from the home she lost.

"Just so much better, a different neighborhood, just so much better. I'm just so happy about this," says Jones.

"I think that there are many people who don't trust government to really try and help people.  But there are a lot of people in government who do just want to help people, "says Szymanski.

And David Szymanski says the treasurer's office is doing everything it can to make sure this doesn't happen again.

"We have several programs going on now where groups are trying to demolish those homes that need to be demolish.  We've met with our partners in that regard and stressed to them the need it's more important to get things done right than to get the things done fast," says Szymanski
