Four men face drug possession charges after state police say three of them were caught smoking marijuana while sitting in a car parked in a New Jersey State Police parking lot.

According to state police, Trooper Erik Tapia was outside preparing for his night shift Tuesday when he noticed what investigators described as the "strong odor" of marijuana coming from a car parked in the lot.

When the trooper walked up to the car, a 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue, police say he spotted three men allegedly smoking marijuana. Police say the trooper also spotted what appeared to be small bags of marijuana sitting in plain sight.

A search of the car turned up 15 small plastic bags of marijuana and more than a dozen suspected ecstasy pills, according to state police investigators.

Police say the three men were waiting for a fourth man, who was inside the station attempting to pick up the paperwork for an impounded car.

All four men were arrested, police said.
