"Perverted person, first of all." That's what parents in Doylestown Borough have to say about a series of disturbing cyber threats targeting teenage girls in the area.

Police say at least four local teens have received threatening text messages demanding explicit photos and promising violence if the demands are not met.

"They want nude photographs of the person, usually addressed to a young girl," says Doylestown Borough Police Chief James Donnelly. "If not, they're going to beat up or kill the complainant's boyfriend or brother."

Police in Doylestown, Plumstead and Buckingham have joined forces to track down the serial text suspect. Investigators believe these text threats are not random.

"They're sending the same message, so we're assuming it's the same person," Donnelly told FOX 29.

A 16-year-old girl who lives on Hillside Avenue in the borough was the latest victim back on March 8th. Police say the texts have been routed through several different IP addresses, making it difficult and time consuming, but not impossible to track down.

"Each step requires another court order," Donnelly explained.

"I think it's terrible," one local resident told FOX 29's Dave Schratwieser.

News of the threatening text messages was upsetting to neighbors in the community here.

Many believe the explosion of social media and text messaging leaves innocent victim's open to these kinds of verbal cyber attacks.

"I think it's sad that there's no way to contact somebody like that. How do you investigate something like that?" said Margaret Fabry.

"My God where's he coming from, perverted, you know that's what it comes down to," added Rachel Papiri.

Detectives say they have some good leads. The chief has some advice for teens.

"If they're getting these kinds of messages, don't do anything, but call the police," he said.

Police say each of the teenage girls who got the messages received five or six explicit and threatening texts before they suddenly stopped.

Chief Donnelly is confident an arrest will be made.
