Cops for Kids Motorcycle Rodeo still on

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (FOX13) -

DeSoto County, Miss., Deputy Mike Cowan broke his leg and arm in a motorcycle wreck March 20 and he is still in The MED in Memphis.

A fundraiser that Dep. Cowan had planned for the children of Make-A-Wish is still going forward.

Deputy Cowan was the planner behind the Cops for Kids Law Enforcement Motorcycle Rodeo scheduled for this weekend at the Southaven Town Center. The motorcycle rodeo will go on even though Cowan is still recovering at The MED.

Law enforcement officers from across Mississippi, Louisiana and Tennessee are participating in the rodeo maneuvering their motorcycles through a tight course. This is not all about winning, this is about increasing your skills as an officer on a motorcycle.

Law enforcement officers say the kind of skills here are the very same kind of skills that saved Deputy Cowan's life in a crash earlier this week when he was able to maneuver his motorcycle to lessen the crash impact on himself.

The motorcycle rodeo begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday in the parking lot near Books-A-Million in Southaven. The hope is to raise as much as $10,000 for Make-A-Wish.
