The metro area could see heavy rain and even a few thundershowers throughout the weekend.
FOX 5 Storm Chief Meteorologist Ken Cook says abundant moisture is heading our way from the west, and when it encounters the cool air currently hovering over the area, a light rain will begin in the late afternoon and evening.
The heavy showers will come in two waves, says Hill. The first wave is expected on Saturday morning. That will be followed by clear skies -- maybe even sunshine -- for much of Saturday afternoon before the second wave hits late Saturday night into Sunday. The heaviest rain will be clear by 8 a.m., Ken said.
Skies are expected to clear Sunday afternoon before more showers and colder temperatures move in that evening.
The heavier rainfall amounts are expected to occur in Atlanta and areas south, with some areas seeing more than 2 inches of rain.
