Memphis Police Officers Brandon Hatley and Forrest Wright, who shot and killed Horace Whiting March 10 after he didn't lower his gun, have been relieved of duty with pay pending an outcome of an investigation.
Mr. Whiting was killed after he failed to lower his shotgun and fired off a round in front of frightened onlookers. The officer-involved shooting took place at around 3 a.m. the morning of March 10 in the 400 block of Georgia Avenue.
Police Director Toney Armstrong backed the use of deadly force in the wake of the fatal shooting that took the life of the 61-year-old.
