A 25-year-old Cordova man has
been sentenced to 12 years in prison for stealing more than $700,000 by
filing fraudulent tax returns.
According to a news release from the U.S. District
Court for the Western District of Tennessee, Jeremy Lasane paid other
people for the personal information of unsuspecting victims.
He then used that information to file more than 240 false tax returns between Sept. 2009 and Oct. 2011.
The investigation revealed that during that time,
Lasane spent large sums of money at Tunica, Miss., casinos. He also
bought several luxury vehicles, including a Maserati and Mercedes-Benz.
The vehicles were forfeited to the U.S. government.
At sentencing Wednesday, Chief District Judge Jon
McCalla ordered Lasane to pay nearly $800,000 in restitution and further
ordered three years of supervised release.
