Tipsters Help Takedown Suspected Neighborhood Brothel

Posted: Updated:

Cherry Hill Police say a three month investigation sparked by tip calls from fed up residents helped them bust a  suspected brothel.

Ray Harrison and his wife say they noticed the problem shortly after they moved onto Oak Avenue.

"Girls would come in and out of there," said Karen Harrison.

"Scantily clad girls 18 or 19 years old that didn't look like they lived there," explained husband Ray.

After tipping  police  to what they saw, the couple found out they'd moved in next to a suspected brothel.  Just this week Cherry Hill police announced they'd arrested 47-year-old Michael Clarke for running a prostitution ring out of his Oak Avenue home.

Clarke  didn't answer the door, though cameras outside keep watch and you could hear music blasting inside.

His pickup truck allegedly used to shuttle prostitutes still parked in the driveway.

According to police, Clarke reportedly advertised prostitution services online at his alleged house  of ill repute and area motels.  The listings were reportedly uploaded on Backpage.com.

Neighbors reported seeing suspicious characters coming in and out of the house.

"There was a gentleman that would come  by every morning in a red van and looked like he had a cash box, " said Harrison.

After witnessing suspected transactions, the Harrisons say they're considering looking for a new home.

"I don't want that kind of thing going on across the street from where I live. I have a grandson  and I'd like to bring him up here. But I'm not comfortable."
