A 49-year-old man who had returned to this East Kings Valley Cove home from grocery shopping with his girlfriend was fatally shot by his neighbor as he was getting out of his car, a Shelby County Sheriff spokesman said.
The incident took place Thursday evening in the 4900 block of East Kings Valley Cove in Raleigh.
The victim, later identified as Anthony Jollif, was shot several times and died at the scene.
"She got out of the car and started to enter the home and unlock the door," said Sheriff spokesman Chip Washington. "The victim was still in the car in the passenger's side when apparently an individual walked up and began firing."
A male suspect who is allegedly responsible for the shooting was taken into custody. Marvin Johnson II, 23, Mr. Joliff's neighbor, was charged with first degree murder.
An earlier dispute between Mr. Jollif and Johnson lead to the fatal shooting, the sheriff's spokesman said.
