It's spring break week for thousands of Mid-South children. The youngsters are excited to be out of school, but what's a parent to do?
Unlike lions waiting around at The Memphis Zoo, you and the kids can get out of the house and go find some fun. Just because you didn't get to go to the beach or go ski in the Rockies does not mean you're without options.
After all you live in greater Memphis. People travel from all over the world to come here to have fun.
We are already here.
Besides the zoo, The Pink Palace Museum in midtown is one of the best museums in Memphis. It's a great place to spend the day with the kids. You can spend a whole day and when you leave, the kids are exhausted. How can you put a price tag on that?
Just down the street is the Children's Museum, one of the best children's museums in the country. Soon it will have a water park for the little ones to enjoy.
"Then there is this idea: take your kids to a park. This is what my dad used to do. He would sit here on the park bench and tell us we could play out on the grass. We would do it for hours. Tried to do that with my kids but they didn't like it. You have to spend money on kids today.
If you have to spend money invest well, The Memphis Zoo is ranked NO. 1 in the country. If you decide to visit the Memphis Zoo, don't forget to check out the new Stingray Bay exhibit, which opened March 9.
If you want to ride a riverboat you will have to come down the to Beale Street Landing on the bank of the Mississippi River. It gives you a good chance to see this great new facility and buy a souvenir. Make sure you go to Beale Street Landing to board. The river boats lined up across from Mud Island are just moored there.
The good news is the weather is going to get better each and every day this week, do get off the couch and get out and enjoy one of the greatest cities in the country.
