Final nights of Las Vegas “Idol” auditions: Zwecker

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Wednesday and Thursday are the final nights of the Las Vegas rounds of "American Idol," which will end up narrow down the finalists to the top 20.

On Wednesday night, it was second group of ten girl semi-finalists chances to shine. After a very slow start with the first few girls, Cristabel turned things around and clearly got the judges excited--as well as the rest of the "Idol" audience in Vegas.

Then came Aubrey, who Mariah Carey described as "limitless." Talk about high praise!

Of course, someone not performing Wednesday was Chicago's own Devin Velez, the 18-year-old student from our town's admiral Farragut Naval Academy. He made it into the final 20 last week in Vegas.

Devin has given some of the most polished performances on this year's "Idol," even tapping into his Hispanic roots to sing in Spanish. When Devin visited FOX 32 for Good Day Chicago, he said it was his family's strong support that keeps him so calm.

Of course, no "Idol" report wouldn't be complete without a bit of behind-the-scenes gossip and judge Nicki Minaj is the focus of the buzzing from "Idol" central.

Nicki is furious about the sudden raft of new rumors circulating on the internet that she's had a lot of plastic surgery. She claims she's never had anything done to her face and credits her "contoured" looks to makeup artistry.

While we're in the midst of this twelfth season of "Idol," I've got some scoop about last year's winner.

We just learned that Phillips, the eleventh season winner, will be on next Thursday's show--singing his second single "Gone, gone, gone" from his debut album, "The world from the side of the moon."

Phillips' song will also be the "goodbye" song featured when "Idol" finalists are eliminated in coming weeks.

Phillip will also be joined on the "Idol" stage next Thursday with the previously announced Bon Jovi.
