Doctors are now finding more cases of younger women developing breast cancer.
Researchers at Seattle's Children's Hospital found a slight increase in the number of cases of breast cancer among women under the age of 40.
Possible risk factors they found included alcohol use and chemicals in the environment, but FOX 29's Dr. Mike also says more women are starting their families later, which is increasing their risk for cancer.
"Women are waiting to start their families later, and that's known as a risk factor," he said. "So if you put off having your first child, that can increase your risk."
Researchers say hormones during pregnancy cause tumors to spread rapidly.
"You need to make sure you check your breasts to make sure you don't feel any lumps or bumps and make sure you follow-up with your healthcare provider," Dr. Mike said.
Dr. Mike also recommends regular exercise and eating a healthy diet as other ways to help lower your cancer risk.
