PHILADELPHIA -

Folks around Market East Station in Philadelphia know him as "RoboCop" and on Monday afternoon they got to see why

Septa Transit Officer Lloyd Rodgers nabbed a fugitive wanted by The U.S. Marshals Service.

"I looked over to my left and said 'oh, that's him!'" said Rodgers, a 12-year transit police veteran.

It turns out, after being on the run for more than a year, 42-year-old Marvin Holmes, wanted in Delaware for escape and violation of probation, was hiding out in plain sight.

"He just had features that I noticed and I put two and two together" said Rogers after seeing Holmes' picture on a wanted poster.

Rogers said he approached Holmes near the corner of 10th and Filbert Street and arrested him without incident.

Rodgers says Holmes escaped from a halfway house after being convicted of rape and strangulation of a Newark woman in 2011. Last week, U.S. Marshal's issued an alert to local police to be on the lookout for Holmes. Rodgers immediately recognized the man he's seen around Market East more than a dozen times.

He believes Holmes is homeless.

"It's an awesome feeling. First of all, to know a gentleman was arrested who was a fugitive. Number 2, he's off the street. Number 3, no one else would be in danger"

This wasn't the first time Officer Rodgers was recognized for a good deed. Last October he helped a woman deliver a baby on a subway car. This latest arrest was just another day on the job.

"If we can do something good in your day, in your tour of duty, you've accomplished what many people would like to accomplish. So today, It was a great feeling" he said.

Holmes was taken to a federal detention in Delaware, where he is waiting for his next appearance in court.
